We've written previously about how we've supplied the firepits to ITV2 for the Love Island reality series since 2016.
Now that the new winter series in South Africa has started, the idea has become firmly established with fans.
Love Island involves a group of contestants, referred to as Islanders, living in isolation from the outside world in a huge villa, constantly under video surveillance. To survive in the villa the Islanders must be coupled up with another Islander (whether it be for love, friendship or money, as the overall winning couple receives £50,000). On the first day, the Islanders couple up for the first time based on first impressions, but over the duration of the series they are forced to "re-couple" where they can choose to remain in their current couple or swap and change.
Although this programme's viewing demographics aren't exactly our usual customer base, architects, designers and landscapers have been taking notice and demand has been boosted by the nightly appearance of this product for the eight weeks since early January - and now, during lockdown, the Love Island Australia edition on ITV2. As it's generally the centre of attention at important points during each broadcast, some have even suggested that the firebowl is the star of the show.
In 2018, Love Island actually received a BAFTA TV award for the 'Best Reality and Constructed Factual' category.
When the second villa was unveiled in February, we expected interest to rise for its own, bioethanol-powered, firebowl - little did we know that with people spending lockdown in their unseasonably sunny gardens in the Spring of 2020, the demand for a quick installation would go through the roof.
This is how the industry has reported this phenomenon:
There's little doubt that the current penchant for outdoor living is growing the market for these products and Urban Fires' wide range of bespoke wall fires, contemporary fire tables, firebowls, fire pits and outdoor kitchens is well placed to satisfy demand.
